New GTA Online Flight School Jobs Now Available to Play + Earn Double RP in the New Playlist

September 02, 2014 11:20AM | Author: R* Q

As of today, we've added 16 additional new jobs to GTA Online. These include new scenarios for all three of the new VS Mission modes (Acquire Targets, Air Force Zero & G-Rating) that recently debuted as part of the San Andreas Flight School Update, plus a pair of new Contact Missions and a selection of new Air Races, Parachute Jumps and more.

Along with these new Jobs, we've also created the New Flight School Jobs Playlist that features a varied assortment of the new Jobs from today's update. This special Playlist will award you Double RP all week long - and for those who may have been unable to unlock the exclusive 'High Flyer' Parachute Pack as part of our recent Event Weekend, we're making that available to all who play through this new Playlist to completion. Read on below for descriptions of these new Jobs and remember boys, no points for second place.

NEW CONTACT MISSIONS

As part of today's update, two new Contact Missions are available to play (once you meet the rank requirement you'll receive a phone call from the associated Contact):

Chop Chop (Contact: Trevor, Rank 43, 2-4 Players)
"Our friend Ronald is getting increasingly agitated about Merryweather Security’s presence in the state, and a nervous Ron gets on my t***. Why don't you go to Sandy Shores Airfield, hack into the Merryweather Network, find their outposts and then take their choppers and blow 'em all to hell. Okay? Great!"

Effin' Lazers (Contact: Martin, Rank 44, 2 Players)
"The market’s about to be flooded with inferior product. I... WE... have too much invested in it to let that happen. I need you to get in some Lazer fighter jets and take out the planes holding product before they land. It sounds extreme, but these are desperate times."

NEW RACES, PARACHUTE JUMPS & CAPTURE

Airstrip (Rank 11, 1-8 Players)
If a recruit shacks it on exercise, they don't need the added humiliation of hitching back to the landing strip. Practice landing where you took off with this flowing descent from 4,300 ft. to McKenzie Airfield. On the way down you can admire the view or ruminate on failure.

Branching Out (Rank 20, 1-8 Players)
From the sea side to mountain peaks, from hikers to technophobic, cannibalistic cultists, from state parks to secret weed farms, the San Andreas wilderness has it all. Drink it in with this Lap Race for choppers by Mount Chilliad and Raton Canyon.

Flying Colors (Rank 12, 1-8 Players)
Regulation Air Force exercises happen at high altitude over the ocean, but where’s the fun when you can’t get a feel for how fast you’re flying. Lap Race for planes low over rural Eastern Blaine County. How close to the dirt can you go without taking the head off a fruit picker?

GTA: Wingmen (Rank 1, 2-8 Players)
It’s a buyer’s market as rival groups attempt to deliver Buckingham military jets to LSIA. They’re vintage collectors’ items and they fly like it, so use Lazers for defense and attack. Each team will only have one Buckingham in play at any time. Start points are Fort Zancudo and the Sandy Shores Airfield.

High Dive (Rank 1, 1-8 Players)
Dive bomb Downtown in this point to point for jets. You start in the Tongva Hills, climb to high altitude, make a near vertical descent, and try to pull up at the last minute. It’s the highest climb and fall we’ve got on our books. You’ll make an impression or make an impression on the ground.

In The Loop (Rank 35, 1-8 Players)
Hold onto your lunch or you’ll need windshield wipers on the inside of your cockpit. Point to point for jets through the docks and Downtown. Obstacles to avoid and two loop the loops will keep you on your toes… or your head.

Under the Bridge (Rank 11, 1-8 Players)
Gravity does most of the hard work when you jump out a chopper from 4,000 ft. We’re going to make it a bit more interesting by staging the drop in the flight path, and making recruits go under a bridge. Best played at night, so you can see the warning lights on obstacles.
Here’s to the crazy ones. The rebels. The troublemakers. The ones who see things differently.
While some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Rockstar Game Tips: Earning Your Wings at San Andreas Flight School

September 04, 2014 11:18AM | Author: R* K

San Andreas Flight School. This is where the best pilots in Los Santos earn their wings under the expert tutelage of J.T. Boyd. If you want to get gold medals on all 10 challenges you're going to need skill, bravery and the ability to ignore death statistics. To help you on your way, we've compiled our tips for success. Good luck, pilot!

Outside Loop
Any pilot worth their salt should be able to complete an outside loop - the challenge here is completing two inside the time limit. Push forward on the left stick at the exact moment you are instructed to, to ensure you beat the timer, and also make certain you fully complete each loop for it to register.

Engine Failure
Don't worry about time here - the key to earning a gold medal is safely landing your ailing Miljet as close to the marker as you can. On approach, use the tail of the plane as a marker and line it up against the near end of the runway. When you're about 1000m away, level out and prepare your landing gear. You should be aiming to touch down just before the halfway point of the runway in order to cruise gently up to the marker and come to rest inside it. Don’t worry if you touch down late or find yourself with too much speed, as you can still apply the brakes if you need to.

Shooting Range
Your priority in this helicopter shooting range is to keep your Buzzard stable. If you're wobbling all over the place then your bullets and rockets are going to do the same. Use the shoulder buttons on your controller and get into position using up/down and rotational movements - using the left stick to move forwards and back too much will make aiming more difficult. Use Machine Gun fire for single, open targets or rows of targets; and Rockets for targets in tight clusters or behind cover. Some players might find it easier to switch to the gun camera using the Select/Back button.

Image

City Landing
Landing a Titan in the middle of the city is hard enough without a full-blown storm and busted engine to deal with. Going through the initial checkpoints, your priority should be to keep the plane as stable as you can and get lined up for the approach. As the Instructor will soon inform you, you're going to be landing on the stretch of beach just past Pleasure Pier. Get as low over the Ferris Whale as you dare and then come down onto the beach, aiming to land just past the wooden barrier (but definitely not before, if you value not being on fire), and taxi onto the target.

Image

Chase Parachute
Plummeting towards the ground without a parachute is either plucky or forgetful. Luckily on this occasion you do have a 'chute - but the bad news is it's not connected to your body. As soon as you leave the plane accelerate downwards to catch up with the Parachute Bag. Don't rush - you're not against the clock (although the rapidly approaching ground does assert its own natural deadline). If you sail past the bag then just slow down and wait for it to catch you up. Once it's strapped to your back line up the target and ensure you end up standing dead-center. Be aware that if you approach with too much speed, you may end up stumbling!

Image

Moving Landing
What’s harder than landing a chopper on the back of a moving truck? How about doing it in 19 seconds? The trick here is to fly straight over to where the bridge starts and get yourself pointed in the right direction, facing down the bridge. Make sure you’re hovering just above the height of the truck, then drop down gracefully as it passes beneath you.

Formation Flight
Keeping straight and listening to instructions is the way to gold in this team formation flight with Western Besras. Use your rudders (L1 and R1 / LB and RB) wherever possible to avoid getting out of shape or overcorrecting. When the checkpoint turns green, you’ll know you’re in formation. For the more difficult moves, like the inside loop, watch the other planes as opposed to the checkpoint and move at the same time as they do. And don't make the rookie error of leaving your landing gear down - it will slow you to the point that you won't be able to keep up.

Image

Ground Level
To get a gold medal here you have to fly low - so low you might feel the spray from the Zancudo on your undercarriage. It's not going to be enough to just go through each checkpoint if you're going for gold - you'll need to pass through the lower half of each checkpoint, and you're aiming for an overall average height of less than 1m. Take a few tries to learn the route and figure out which checkpoints you find particularly tricky, so that you can prepare. If you mess up early on you may want to restart as it can throw off you score for the rest of the mission. Don't be afraid to go sideways to make some of the tighter turns - the Besra is an agile aircraft well-suited to such flagrant flat-hatting - and you'll find it easier if you're factoring in the angle you need to pass each checkpoint at to make the next one easier. And don't worry about speed - lay off the gas and put your landing gear down: it will reduce your speed and offer some protection if you kiss the dirt.

Collect Flags
Gold won't come on reflexes alone here - you're going to need to use your thinking cap and plan out the best route through all of the flags in the quickest time. First off, head for the ones to the west of the city since they're easy to grab in sequence. Then, head to the city and collect the flags around skyscrapers in height order, so that you don't miss any. When you need to negotiate buildings, drop your landing gear since this will lower your speed and increase maneuverability. Speed is not as important as you'd think, so go easy on the afterburner and glide to where you need to be. And finally, don't be afraid to fail - trial and error will help cement the best route in your mind. Check out the map below to see our preferred route, in numerical order:

Image

Follow Leader
The final test - follow J.T. Boyd around a course designed to soil even the most heavily worn G-suits. Focus on each upcoming checkpoint, rather than following his lead, and memorize the color coding of checkpoints: gold = normal; blue = inverted; and green = knife flying. When knife flying, use your rudders to maintain your height and make the most of the increased maneuverability to line up the next checkpoint.

Good luck scoring those gold medals and feel free to let us know in the comments if you have any other flight tips to share.

Rockstar Verified Update: 10 New Cloud Piercing Air Races, Including the #FlightSchool Creator Competition Selections

October 14, 2014 2:02PM | Author: R* K

The latest batch of Rockstar Verified GTA Online Jobs take us to the skies above Los Santos and Blaine County, with a squadron of ten Air Races, including our five official selections from the #FlightSchool Event Weekend Creator Competition. These five choices have earned their respective Creators each a cash infusion of GTA$1M plus the AVIATOR custom license plate for their ground-based endeavors. We’ve also selected five runners-up to receive the Rockstar Verified treatment, making them available to play across both PS3 and Xbox 360 (as well as in the upcoming new versions of Grand Theft Auto V launching for PS4 and Xbox One on November 18th and PC on January 27th).

Read on below for descriptions of all these new Verified Jobs and make sure to click on each one's title to add a bookmark via Social Club for easy access during your next play-session. Keep an eye out for more Rockstar Verified Jobs coming soon, including our selections from the recent Last Team Standing Weekend Creator Competition.

#FlightSchool Selections

Helicopters follow the coastline of East Los Santos in Dedalus.

Dedalus - created by jjjpelo
"Easy," reads the one-word description for jjjpelo's long loop along the coastline, but in reality it's anything but. The Swift is the default choice of chopper, and its maneuverability and speed make it an excellent fit. If you're not too busy getting in the blades of your opponents, look out for great views across the city as you climb over the Land Act Dam.

Heli Low Fly Zone - created by LoneWolfOfNorth
The introduction of San Andreas Flight School to GTA Online has arguably increased the skill of local pilots, while at the same time encouraged greater recklessness. This creation from LoneWolfOfNorth features some of the most difficult low flying sections we have seen, to the point where we wondered if it could even be classed as flying. We think that this will be a Race that many players will come back to again and again, especially to try and beat the three-minute Lap challenge laid down in the description.

Jets look to avoid the rotating turbines of the windfarm as they race to industrial South Los Santos in Dusk.

Dusk - created by GunterDaPenguin
GunterDaPenguin has made the city the star of this Besra Race, a north to south tour at a time of day (hence the title) when the world beneath your wings has a stunning amber glow. Not that it's advised to spend too long sightseeing - challenging sections weaving through wind turbines and knifing between skyscrapers should keep your attention on the stick.

Pylon Slalom - created by manfreygordon
Conventional logic would suggest that spinning helicopter blades and overhead power cables are rarely a good mix - but conororor has disregarded this completely and created a fun aerial slalom between pylons in the Besra. Quick reactions and close control over your plane's rudders (L1/LB and R1/RB buttons) are a must.

An appropriately sponsored Mallard weaves through the aerial obstacle course of Sprunk Air Race #1.

Sprunk Air Race #1 - created by kapnkyle
This Mallard Stunt Race is as extreme as the benzene-packed drink from which it takes its name. Loops and tight turns in the skies above Vespucci Beach make for an entertaining test for the most able pilots. Non-Contact is selected by default and we recommend keeping it that way, unless mid-air collisions are your idea of a day at the beach.

Runners-Up

After School - created by KakoQR
The title couldn't me more fitting in this Air Race for San Andreas Flight School graduates looking to take the Besra Training Jet for an off-curriculum cruise. The route is varied, with sections under bridges and over the crest of a mountain, and we suggest keeping the time set to morning so you can enjoy the sunrise around Raton Canyon.

Helicopters take off from the peak of Mt Chiliad in Chopper Bombing.

Chopper Bombing - created by passlake
This helicopter Race feels like a change from the norm right out of the gate, with players starting at the peak of Mt. Chiliad and immediately going into what is accurately described as a "near-suicidal descent", followed by a “treetop-trimming run through Paleto Bay”.

Chopper Killer - created by Liwetha
Another challenging race in the Swift helicopter, with players starting out at the docks and working their way through downtown, squeezing between buildings and climbing to pass over the Maze Bank Tower.

SA Flight School: Racing - created by DemonicStalkerr
This Race is pitched as a chance to put everything you've learned at the San Andreas Flight School to the test, and this proclamation is backed up with a series of tight turns, low flying sections and tight squeezes along its short route. The varied verticality, with some checkpoints requiring you to climb steeply and others forcing you to dive down under bridges, made the Race stand out from the rest.

The Flyby sees Jets roar past the quiet beach town of Chumash.

The Flyby - created by Vance Burrito
Another great, high speed Jet Race with good variation. Highlights include dangerously low flying sections over the rooftops of Chumash beach houses and under bridges as you skim the water in Lago Zancudo, which are separated by a highly technical number of tight turns around the tower of the Fort Zancudo Military Base.

Please note that in addition to occasionally changing Job names due to taste, copyright or other reasons - we also from time to time will make other small edits to players' Jobs before making them Rockstar Verified. This includes, but is not limited to modifying spawn points, improving checkpoints or increasing/decreasing the amount of weapon picks ups for a particular Job. Once Jobs are Rockstar Verified, they become available for play across both platforms, so whether you're on Xbox 360 or PS3, you'll have all these newly Verified creations available in your next Freemode session (and as mentioned above, you can bookmark them at the Social Club for easy access in your next session).

Go ahead and post your Job below in the comments (only once, please don't spam) with a punchy explanation of why it's worth checking out. We're always looking for new player-created Jobs to add to the Rockstar Verified program and the best way to get noticed is to have a solid Race, Deathmatch, Capture or LTS that's been thoroughly tested by the community and refined into the most fun and fair experience it can be.

GTAV: IGN Delivers New Details - First Person Experience Revealed

November 04, 2014 1:25PM | Author: R* Q

With exactly two weeks to go until launch, IGN spent some time with the new version of Grand Theft Auto V, including the all-new First Person Mode. Exclusive to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC versions of Grand Theft Auto V, this new mode gives players the chance to explore the world of Los Santos and Blaine County directly through the eyes of their character, revealing all the world's glorious details in an entirely new way. For more details about First Person Mode, check out the first of IGN's 3 exclusive feature stories this week. Here's a sampling:

"There’s so much new about this version Grand Theft Auto V, but it’s obvious Rockstar was keen to deliver something above and beyond a technical upgrade – it’s given players an entirely new way of playing the game. From shooters to action games, we’re all used to adopting the first-person, but the way in which this new perspective transforms the GTA 5 experience can’t be understated; it fundamentally alters how you inhabit and interact with this world. It rewrites the experience."

Read the full story here: http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/11/04/ ... erspective

Available in both GTAV and GTA Online, we've made a host of changes to accommodate this new perspective, including the creation of an optional first person cover system, a new targeting system, a more traditional FPS control scheme, and integrating thousands of new animations into the existing game. It's also available at the touch of a button so you can easily switch back and forth between perspectives.

Alongside the new First Person mode, Grand Theft Auto V for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC features hundreds of additions and enhancements including 1080p resolution at 30FPS on PS4 and Xbox One (4K compatible on PC).
